Professor Fiona Forbes

Fiona Forbes is the inaugural Director of the NESLI Office of International School Leadership.  She brings to this position a wealth of experience and expertise having worked in early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary and special education fields for over 30 years.  She has been a principal for the past 24 years working most recently as the Principal of a unique school catering for early childhood students with language disorders. Fiona also led within her school a state-wide service for teacher development in supporting students with speech, language and communication difficulties in West Australian classrooms including those in rural and remote locations.

Fiona is Professor of Practice in the School of Education at La Trobe University Victoria, Australia, as well as the Board Chair of the Australian Special Education Principals’ Association.

Fiona has a commitment to global education strengthened by her 6 years on the executive of the International Confederation of Principals.  She held the position of President 2017/18 and was awarded life membership in 2019 for her services to global school leadership.

“We now operate in the face of exponential rates of change globally – politically, socially, culturally and economically.  A long-term strategic plan of education informed by what we know, what we anticipate, and what we aspire to can lead to real system transformation. I accepted the offer to be on the Board of the Federation for Education Development to assist in the facilitation of a robust, co-constructed, futures focused, long lasting education system suitable for all students.
