FED Ambassador: Gavin English has over a decade of experience across both independent and state education, including executive leadership and governance. He is currently Cognita’s UK Head of educational quality and improvement.
He is also a charity founder with a focus on enabling social mobility and building community through the power of sports and the arts and works closely with a number of third sector organisations in an advisory capacity. he has extensive experience in sports, arts and educational enrichment development and implementation. His work is driven by a belief that young people’s development extends far beyond academic outcomes, and that schools, families and communities have a shared responsibility to help children build confidence, character, resilience and belonging.
He speaks passionately anywhere and to anyone that will listen about adolescent mental health and wellbeing and the conditions young people need in order to thrive, and is an advisor and content provider to a number of organisations leading the charge in support of our young people’s futures including among others, ‘Brainwaves’, a long-term research and education collaboration between the University of Oxford , Swansea University and The Day News & Media Ltd.
Away from work, Gavin is the very proud father of two awesome daughters and the frequently awed husband of a bold, brave entrepreneur of a wife. They keep him grounded, regularly humbled and remind him that he is very rarely as funny as he thinks he is. He is also wrapped up in the world of footy and retains an entirely indefensible love of retro toys, old-school nostalgia, Star Wars and Street Fighter 2.
