Following a career in school teaching and teacher training, Adrian Lyons FRSA was one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Education for over 16 years, one of the most experienced HMI in Ofsted. He regularly led the inspections of secondary schools, primary schools and initial teacher training providers. He led major national surveys such as ‘Getting Ready for Work’ in 2016 and in 2019 was the lead HMI for Ofsted’s research into initial teacher education (ITE) training programmes. For several years he mentored new HMI. He has vast experience of inspecting primary and secondary school and both university and school-based programmes of initial teacher training. For the last six years of the role’s existence, he was the HMI national lead for economics, business and enterprise.
He is now a consultant supporting schools and ITE providers in a range of contexts and a regular writer and presenter both in the UK and internationally on education and Ofsted matters. He is a school governor, a director of the Economics, Business & Enterprise Association (EBEA), the UK representative on the Association for European Economics Education (AEEE) and a trustee of the Association of retired and former HMI in England and Wales.
