FED celebrations planned to mark 150 years of State Education

Plans are under way to mark the 150th Anniversary of the introduction of state education in 1870.

From September 2020, FED will be coordinating and planning a number of activities and opportunities to participate and engage with a wide range of voices, reflecting the diversity of state education in the 2020’s in ‘looking back – moving forward’.  More information will follow as we confirm events.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the introduction of state education in our country reminds us that the social and economic needs of each era brings with it different challenges and opportunities.  While the ‘core’ of what makes up our education system remains the same we are reminded that the world around us drives change and innovation – none more so than now – as our education system emerges from the Covid crisis.

Many organisations and individuals are already committed to joining the celebrations in the months to come and if you would like to be involved please register your interest here. Our celebration events will begin during the week of 14th September 2020 and lead through to Christmas.

The vision shown by our predecessors in 1870 and in the decades that followed could not be more appropriate as we work to emerge from the challenges of the Covid 19 crisis.   We hope you will join us in the spirit of partnership across the United Kingdom to celebrate a national treasure and join the many voices who will contribute to ‘looking back – moving forward’.
