Join Professor Wayne Holmes and Alison Gellett for a thought-provoking deep dive into the current digital transformation situation within the education sector, to examine successes as well as important issues rarely considered, especially within the world of generative AI.
Drawing on their extensive experience and evidence-based research, Alison and Wayne will explore topics such as:
- The Digital Transformation Journey: Trailblazer practices within schools, as well as the challenges and pitfalls and already learned
- âThe Big AI Projectâ: Helping school leaders, teachers, and learners with regard to digital transformation by developing AI literacy skills
- Ethic s & Childrenâs Rights:What is/is not being considered; and the practical solutions which can be implemented now to ensure safety
- Environmental Factors: Energy and natural resource consumption within generative AI, and the bigger picture to be considered

Professor Wayne Holmes
Wayne Holmes (PhD, Oxon) is Professor of Critical Studies of Artificial Intelligence and Education in the IOE (UCLâs Faculty of Education and Society), University College London (UK). His research explores the ethical, human rights, and social justice implications of teaching and learning with and about Artificial Intelligence (AI&ED). He leads the Council of Europeâs AI&ED expert group, is a Senior Researcher in AI&ED for the International Research Centre on AI under the auspices of UNESCO, and is an AI&ED consultant for UNESCO, the United Nations, and the EU JRC. Wayne has published extensively on AI&ED and given invited keynotes in more than 20 countries around the world.

Alison Gellett
Ali is the Senior Projects Lead at Big Education Multi Academy Trust, leading pioneering work (The Big AI Project) to empower school leaders and teachers across the UK, so that they are better able to support students with critical AI Literacy skills, as an integral component of a Head, Heart and Hand education. The Big AI Project will also design AI Literacy education sessions for primary and secondary students, enabling students nationally to use AI with an ethical and critical thinking mindset.
Ali has 30 years of experience and expertise from within the primary and secondary education sectors, as well as local government and Multi Academy Trust executive leadership. Ali is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and believes passionately in the transformation of society through education.
Ali is the Programme Director of the My Future primary aspirations, careers and essential skills programme that has reached 22,000 children, broadening horizons, challenging stereotypes and raising aspirations. This programme is being rolled out across the region.
