Conversations with purpose: National Education Futures
Andrea Quincey
Director, Early Years and Primary, Oxford University Press

Andrea has worked in educational publishing – with a focus on primary literacy – for over 25 years and currently oversees programme research and development across OUP’s market-leading early years and primary portfolio. This includes the highly impactful Read Write Inc programme, a new wider reading series called Readerful, the well-regarded Numicon resources, and popular children’s titles such as Winnie the Witch and Isadora Moon.

Over the years Andrea has been fortunate to work with and learn from many leading researchers, authors and thinkers in primary education as well as classroom teachers, school leaders and – most importantly – lots of children. Andrea’s expertise spans: synthetic phonics, early language and vocabulary, the ‘gender gap’ in literacy, oral and written communication skills, formative assessment, and effective text levelling. She has been involved in several global reading initiatives, supporting countries as diverse as the US, South Africa and China.

As a parent of two teenagers and as a professional, Andrea is particularly interested in learner self-esteem and motivation and by the positive and negative impacts of our increasingly digital world.
