Gavin Govinden is an educational leader and qualified lawyer with a professional background spanning over 20 years in law, primary education and school leadership. The majority of Gavin’s career has been spent working within and leading primary schools in some of the most socio-economically deprived areas in the south-east and London. He is currently Headteacher at Furzefield Primary Academy, part of the LEO Academy Trust.
Gavin’s passion lies in driving equitable and inclusive systems through the vehicles of literacy, digital transformation, PedTech and AI and for the last 4 years, has worked both locally and nationally at the intersection of education, technology and inclusion.
He sits on the strategy panel of the cross-sector AI in Education initiative and has contributed to discussions and advisory work with the Department for Education, Ofsted, the Digital Poverty Alliance, FED and the East-Surrey Learning Partnership. Outside leadership of his own school, Gavin’s current work centres around how emerging technologies, including AI, can be harnessed to improve outcomes for children in a world of ever-widening social and economic inequality.
