Marlon James-Edwards is a Dyslexic thinker, raised in Tottenham, North London in a one parent household. After 19 years in community work and mainstream education as an English teacher and Head of Department, he decided to start his own businesses in 2021 marlonjames-edwards.com – an education consultancy service with a focus on enabling all learners through clear strategies of engagement, retention and aspiration.
Marlon continues to work closely with schools around inclusion and has recently become the Manager of Upward Bound in Islington where he previously worked as a Group leader and English teacher. Upward Bound is a Saturday school provision offering additional GCSE English, Maths, Science and Creative writing to local students who were on the borderline of passing/failing their exams.
Marlon’s task now, as well as leading a team of 42 staff and cohort of 200 young people, is to help raise funding to sustain the project for another 18 years. He has recently been nominated for a ‘Changemaker of the Year’ Award by Foundervine.
