FED Ambassador: Jim Knight is the former Minister of State for Schools for the UK Government, and now a member of the House of Lords also working in education, and digital technology.
Jim continues to develop his education expertise, particularly around schooling and meeting the needs of the future labour market. He is the Non-Executive Chair of a number of education boards: E-Act Multi Academy Trust, a group of 38 government funded schools; the Council of British International Schools, the foremost trade association for the British international school sector; Century-Tech a long-established AI in education working in schools and colleges in the UK and internationally; and STEM Learning Ltd, the company funded by the UK government to provide professional development for science teachers.
Jim also sits on the Pearson Qualifications Committee and provides advice to Nord Anglia Education, the Brookings Institute in Washington DC, GoodNotes, Edwin Group and Blackbaud. He is a trustee of the Good Futures Foundation. In the UK Parliament he co-chairs the Future of Work All Party Parliamentary Group.
As a government minister and MP, Jim’s portfolios included rural affairs, schools, digital and employment. He was a member of Gordon Brown’s Cabinet, before joining the Lords in 2010. He regularly speaks in the Lords on education and technology policy. He is a member of the Communications and Digital Committee of the Lords, where he has been working on recent reports on the future of news, on growing AI businesses and on media literacy.
